We like to pass on our expertise to other interested people.  As part of their training, Student Nurses are required to spend some time in the community. They find a day or two with us to be a happy and worthwhile experience.
Trainee Gardaí come to experience interaction with Older People. They each spend approximately two weeks with us. We value their knowledge and sense of adventure and they learn from the wealth of experience older people have to offer.

Some Transition Year Students spend time with us. Older people love to talk to teenagers and share their stories.  They enjoy the energy and life the students bring with them ...more

We are fortunate to have so many Good Friends and Volunteers who give their time and expertise without counting the cost to themselves or their families. Some come on a regular bases week-in-week-out, while others join us for all our “big occasions” Party Days, Reflection days, Bus outings,

“X Factor Talent competition, Fundraising days etc. We are grateful for this and for all the local knowledge they share with us.

Cobh Regeneration
Project Partner: Marie Brett, Sirius Arts Centre, Park Road Day Care Centre, HSE South

Project Description: Credit Ger McCarthy
In line with one of Sirius Arts Centre’s objectives to celebrate Cobh through art, this project marked the beginning of what the Centre hopes will be a longer-term community arts initiative which will celebrate the area. Using the theme of The Regeneration of
Cobh/Health and Revitalisation, the project aimed to collaboratively develop a body of work for exhibition. Building on work previously undertaken by Sirius Arts Centre with a women’s art group, the project aimed to develop their skills and facilitate the training necessary for them to deliver a visual arts project in a healthcare setting.

The group collectively devised and implemented a creative arts project, working with older people attending the Park Road Day Care centre in Cobh. Visual media was used to explore a theme of health and revitalisation/regeneration. A series of 5 large canvases, painted and collaged, were created by participants and displayed at the centre and subsequently exhibited at Cobh’s Post Office.

The project sought to establish models of good practice not only in the planning and implementation but also the evaluation of such a project with a view to the women’s group involvement in facilitating community based art projects with Sirius Arts Centre in the future.
